Roof Insurance Claims in Tyler, TX

Roof insurance claims are the formal process of documenting storm or weather-related roof damage, submitting evidence to a homeowner’s insurance carrier, coordinating with the adjuster during the inspection, and executing approved repairs or replacement under the terms of the policy. Redline Roofing has worked alongside East Texas homeowners on insurance claims for 20+ years. We document damage, support adjuster visits, review approved scopes for completeness, and execute the approved work - with no charge for the inspection or claim assistance.

How the roof insurance claim process works

Step 1: Document the damage first

Before calling your insurance company, call Redline Roofing. We provide a free inspection, photograph all visible damage, and prepare a written scope report. Having independent documentation before the adjuster visit puts you in a stronger position if anything is missed during their inspection.

Step 2: File the claim with your insurance company

Contact your insurance agent or the claims department directly and report damage to your roof. The company will assign an adjuster who will contact you to schedule an inspection. Provide them with Redline’s contact information at this stage - we can coordinate directly with the adjuster’s schedule.

Step 3: Adjuster inspection

The adjuster visits the property to assess damage and prepare their estimate. We recommend requesting that Redline be present during this inspection. Our experience with East Texas storm damage patterns and insurance claim documentation allows us to identify items that may otherwise be overlooked.

Step 4: Review the estimate of covered damages

After the adjuster’s visit, you receive a written estimate of covered damages using XACTIMATE pricing. Redline reviews this against our independent documentation. If items are missing - flashing, decking, gutters, code upgrades - we prepare a written supplement and submit it for reconsideration before scheduling work.

Step 5: First check and contract

Once the estimate is approved, the insurance company issues an initial payment - the full estimated amount minus your deductible and minus held-back depreciation. If your mortgage company is listed on the check (Texas law requires this for payments over $5,000), you will need to have the check endorsed through your lender’s process. Once received, we finalize the contract and schedule the work.

Step 6: Work completion and depreciation release

When work is complete, Redline submits a Certificate of Completion to the insurance carrier. This triggers the release of the held-back depreciation as a second payment. Once that check clears, the final payment on the contract is made. Your total out-of-pocket cost is your deductible.

What insurance typically covers

  • Hail damage: Impact craters, granule loss, cracked or punctured shingles, damaged flashing, gutters, and skylights resulting from a hail event
  • Wind damage: Missing shingles, lifted ridge caps, torn flashing, and structural damage from wind events
  • Falling debris: Damage from trees, branches, or other objects
  • Code upgrades: Many policies include coverage to bring the repaired roof up to current building code, which may include decking improvements, ice and water shield requirements, or ventilation upgrades

Insurance does not cover gradual deterioration, wear and tear, improper installation, or damage resulting from deferred maintenance.

Per Texas law, Redline Roofing cannot act as a public adjuster, negotiate claim settlements, file a claim on your behalf, make coverage decisions, or waive your deductible. We provide inspection documentation and claim support, but the claim and all negotiations with the carrier are between you and your insurance company.

Frequently Asked Questions

Roofing Insurance Claims - Common Questions

Most homeowner's policies in Texas cover sudden storm-related damage - hail impact, wind damage, falling trees, and similar events. They do not cover gradual deterioration, normal wear, or damage resulting from a lack of maintenance. After a significant storm event, call Redline Roofing for a free inspection. We will document what we find and tell you honestly whether the damage looks like a legitimate insurance claim or a maintenance issue.

First, contact your insurance company to file a claim. They will assign an adjuster who will schedule an inspection. Contact Redline Roofing before the adjuster visit so we can document the damage independently and, if you choose, be present during the adjuster's inspection. After the adjuster completes their report, you receive an estimate of covered damages and an initial check less depreciation and your deductible. Once work is complete, Redline submits a Certificate of Completion and the insurance company releases the recoverable depreciation as a second payment. Your total out-of-pocket cost is your deductible.

Replacement Cost Value (RCV) coverage pays to restore your roof to its pre-loss condition using current material costs, with depreciation held back until work is complete. Actual Cash Value (ACV) coverage pays only the depreciated value of the roof - an older roof may receive significantly less than what replacement actually costs. Most Texas homeowners have RCV coverage. Check your policy declarations page or call your agent to confirm which type you have before filing a claim.

XACTIMATE is the industry-standard estimating software used by nearly every insurance carrier to price approved repairs. The adjuster enters damage quantities and the software generates a line-item estimate using regional pricing. The resulting number is what the insurance company has agreed to pay for covered work. Redline reviews the XACTIMATE estimate against our own scope to make sure all covered damage is included. If items are missing or underpriced, we communicate the discrepancy with supporting documentation before work begins.

Possibly. Whether a claim affects your premium depends on your carrier, your claims history, and whether the damage is classified as a weather event or a maintenance issue. Weather-related claims (hail, wind) are generally treated differently than frequency-based claims. Consult your agent before filing if you are unsure - in some cases, the cost of repair may be close enough to your deductible that filing is not worth the potential rate impact.

No, and any contractor who offers to waive your deductible is asking you to participate in insurance fraud. Texas law prohibits deductible waivers in connection with insurance claims. Your deductible is your contractual obligation to your carrier, and the full deductible amount must be paid. Redline does not offer deductible waivers and never will.

Most straightforward storm damage claims move through the following timeline: initial inspection and claim filing takes a few days, adjuster scheduling typically takes one to two weeks after the claim is filed, the estimate of covered damages is usually delivered within one to two weeks of the adjuster visit, and work can be scheduled once the first check is received and endorsed. The entire process from initial call to completed roof typically takes four to eight weeks. More complex claims or supplemental negotiations for missed damage can take longer.

This is common. Adjusters handle many claims and can miss items - particularly flashing, decking, gutters, and code upgrade requirements. If we believe damage was overlooked, Redline documents the discrepancy with photos and a written supplement and submits it to your carrier for review. We cannot negotiate your claim settlement or act as a public adjuster, but we can identify what is missing and provide the documentation you or a public adjuster would need to pursue a supplement.
